WORKSHOP ANNOUNCEMENT

"GET WET & WILD"
Aquatic Academy for Educators
September 29, 2009   8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.
Camp Newaygo - Newaygo County


The Muskegon River Watershed Assembly (MRWA) will conduct its second
Aquatic Academy, "Get Wet & Wild" on Tuesday, September 29, at Camp Newaygo
in Newaygo County. The MRWA Education Committee has produced a quality
6-hour educational workshop to promote and provide water-oriented education
and curriculum to teachers and other educators.

This year's workshop will contain the following sessions:

Leopold Education Project - 6 hour session
Muskegon River Water Monitoring Program - 6 hour session
MEECS (Michigan Environmental Educational Curriculum Support) Water Quality
- 4 hour session
GVSU Boat Trip on the "Jackson" - water monitoring in Muskegon Lake/Lake
Michigan - 4 hour session
GEMS - Great Exploration in Math and Science-River Cutters - 4 hour session
Groundwater Model (use in the classroom) - 2 hour session
Red Cross - Water Safety - 2 hour session
Wetland Trail Excursion - 2 hour session

Registration is open to all educators but preference will be given to those
from Muskegon River Watershed (MRW) educational facilities. Registration
fees are $25 per person but this fee will be returned to all educators
attending the workshop. Lunch and snacks will be provided free of cost.
Registration forms (with fees) must be received by September 15.

Educators WITHIN the MRW will receive a mileage stipend of $.25 per mile
per vehicle (driver) plus $.05 per mile for each additional passenger.
School districts within the MRW will be reimbursed up to $70 per teacher
for providing substitute teachers for the day.

Camp Newaygo will provide housing the night before the workshop, with a
continental breakfast, at the cost of $25 per educator (at the educator's
own expense). There will be a special program "around the campfire" held
the night before the workshop. It will feature Steve Wessling from the
Stephen F. Wessling Observatory providing a program with telescopes.
