The LOSLR Framework Team has tentatively scheduled
a "Great Lakes Framework Data Workshop" for July 8, 2003 at the offices of
the Great Lakes Commission in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The intent of the
workshop is to bring together representatives from both the IJC LOSLR Study
as well as the larger Great Lakes geospatial community and introduce the
Framework Data Project, with a focus on the issues encountered and the
lessons learned in developing a regional system for the sharing of
geospatial data. Further details on the workshop may be obtained by
contacting Mr. Roger Gauthier of the Great Lakes Commission via e-mail at
gauthier@glc.org or by phone at

at the 2003 American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Conference (ASPRS)
that was held
in Anchorage, Alasksa on May 7-9, 2003. The conference focused on the
latest developments in remote sensing, geospatial data, and related
technologies. The presentation was delivered during the Friday morning
session on Global Spatial Data Infrastructures. A copy of the presentation
may be found in the Documents section of this
site.
Members of the Study Team will also be presenting at the
International Association
of Great Lakes Research Conference (IAGLR) in Chicago, Illinois on June

A presentation on the Lake Ontario - St. Lawrence
River Framework Data Project was recently given at the
Coastal GeoTools 2003
Conference held in Charleston, South Carolina on January 6-9, 2003.
This conference highlights the integration of geospatial tools and
methodologies with coastal resource management and promotes the
understanding and applied uses of geospatial data and tools for studying and
effectively managing the coast. The presentation, entitled, "Storing,
Maintaining, Discovering, and Sharing Geospatial Information over a Common
Geography" may be viewed in the Document

LOSLR Framework
Strategy Plan Available for Review
The LOSLR Framework Strategy Plan will serve as a
foundation upon which to develop thorough documentation of the LOSLR
Framework Data Project to sustain the LOSLR Framework and contribute to a
“best practices” knowledge base associated with development of a
U.S./Canadian bi-national Spatial Data Infrastructure. The document is
intended to clarify key components of the LOSLR Framework Data Project and
the respective roles and responsibilities of the project’s participants. The
document also represents an initial attempt to provide potential
participants and any interested parties with a greater understanding of the
LOSLR Framework and all of its related components. The LOSLR Framework
Strategy Plan will clarify, for the entire Framework community, the common
vision of the LOSLR Framework. This report may be
downloaded on the Documents page of this
web site.
LOSLR Framework Strategy Team Holds Metadata Workshop
To facilitate LOSLR Framework Project and Study FGDC 1998
standard compliant metadata production, the LOSLR Framework Data Project
hosted a metadata workshop on the 26th and 27th of September 2002. At the
LOSLR Metadata Workshop, Framework Project participants began developing a
Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) which framework and non-framework data
producers and owners will follow and which will provide the tools and
support structure to facilitate FGDC 1998 standard-compliant metadata
production. Also at the LOSLR Metadata Workshop, metadata liaisons from the
TWGs of the Study participated in a one-day training seminar for FGDC 1998
standard-compliant metadata given by Mike Moeller of the NOAA Coastal
Services Center.
