Fourth Annual Surface Water Monitoring and Standards (SWiMS) Meeting I would like to announce the upcoming Surface Water Monitoring and Standards (SWiMS) meeting February 1-3, 2005 in Chicago. This meeting -- put on by WD, State, and Tribal staff -- will be held at the Allerton Crowne Plaza at 701 N. Michigan Ave. The SWiMS meeting is an annual State/Tribal/EPA technical coordinators meeting aimed at sharing monitoring successes and challenges, learning about the most up-to-date scientific information, and discussing programmatic issues. The main meeting kicks off with three concurrent workshops and then moves into a wide range of topics including nutrient criteria, wetlands assessment, modeling and predictive tools, biological monitoring, the Great Lakes and others. Each session will include 2-3 speakers presenting different scientific, technical, and/or policy-related issues. While the meeting is aimed at State and Tribal monitoring, assessment and standards staff and managers, other federal agencies, the regulated community, academics, environmental organizations, and others are also encouraged to attend. To see a complete copy of the agenda, please check our website at: http://www.epa.gov/region5/water/wqb/swims.htm If you plan to attend the workshop or the SWiMS meeting, send an e-mail to Holly Arrigoni with your name and Branch.
